Why We Exclude Certain Conditions
While Framework Nutrition provides evidence-based meal plans for several common health conditions, some medical situations require:

- Integration with medical treatment plans
- Real-time adjustments based on medical status
Excluded Conditions
Eating Disorders
- Anorexia Nervosa: Requires specialized eating disorder treatment and medical supervision
- Bulimia Nervosa: Needs therapeutic intervention and nutritional rehabilitation
- Binge Eating Disorder: Requires psychological treatment and supervised nutrition therapy
- ARFID (Avoidant/Restrictive Food Intake Disorder): Needs specialized feeding therapy
- Orthorexia: Requires treatment for obsessive healthy eating patterns
- Other Specified Feeding or Eating Disorders (OSFED): Needs professional evaluation and treatment
Why excluded: Eating disorders require comprehensive treatment including psychological therapy, medical monitoring, and specialized nutrition counseling. Meal planning apps may trigger or worsen disordered eating behaviors.
Kidney Disease
- Chronic Kidney Disease (Stage 3-5): Requires precise control of protein, potassium, phosphorus, and sodium
- Dialysis (Hemodialysis or Peritoneal Dialysis): Needs specialized renal diet with strict nutrient limits
- Kidney Transplant: Requires immunosuppression-compatible diet and medical supervision
- Acute Kidney Injury: Needs immediate medical management and therapeutic diet
Why excluded: Kidney disease requires precise nutrient management that must be individualized based on lab values, dialysis schedule, and medical status. Incorrect dietary choices can be dangerous.
Cancer and Oncology
- Active Cancer Treatment: Chemotherapy, radiation, or immunotherapy requiring specialized nutrition support
- Cancer Cachexia: Severe weight loss and muscle wasting requiring medical nutrition therapy
- Post-Surgical Recovery: Following cancer surgery requiring modified diets
- Neutropenia: Low white blood cell count requiring food safety precautions
Why excluded: Cancer treatment affects nutritional needs, tolerance, and safety requirements. Patients need individualized support from oncology dietitians.
Pregnancy and Lactation
- Pregnancy: All trimesters require specialized prenatal nutrition
- High-Risk Pregnancy: Gestational diabetes, preeclampsia, or multiple pregnancies
- Breastfeeding/Lactation: Increased nutritional needs and food safety considerations
- Postpartum Recovery: First 6 months after delivery

Pediatric Populations

- Growth and Development Issues: Failure to thrive, obesity, or developmental delays
Why excluded: Children have unique nutritional needs for growth and development. Dietary planning for minors should involve pediatricians and pediatric dietitians.
Liver Disease
- Cirrhosis: Advanced liver disease requiring sodium and protein management
- Hepatic Encephalopathy: Requires specialized protein distribution and management
- Acute Liver Failure: Needs immediate medical intervention and therapeutic diet
- Liver Transplant: Pre- and post-transplant nutrition requires medical supervision
Why excluded: Liver disease requires careful management of protein, sodium, and other nutrients based on disease stage and lab values.
Severe Food Allergies and Intolerances
- Anaphylactic Food Allergies: Life-threatening allergies requiring strict avoidance and medical supervision
- Multiple Food Allergies: Allergies to 3+ major food groups requiring nutritional assessment
- Eosinophilic Esophagitis (EoE): Requires elimination diet under medical supervision
- Food Protein-Induced Enterocolitis Syndrome (FPIES): Severe reaction requiring specialized management

- On Warfarin/Coumadin: Requiring consistent vitamin K intake monitoring

Diabetes Requiring Intensive Management
